Academic Publishing House of UNWE
UNWE Press (Academic Publishing House of UNWE) was established in 1972 under the name University Publishing House “Stopanstvo”, alongside the expansion of the Higher Institute of Economics “Karl Marx” (today the University of National and World Economy – UNWE). During this period, the institution developed its own Editorial and Publishing Unit and printing facilities, whose primary function was to support the educational and research activities of all academic departments. A significant portion of the textbooks, teaching materials, and scholarly works of the Institute were printed in these facilities.
From its establishment until 1989, the publishing house operated under its own publisher identifier, registered with the National Agency for the International Standard Book Number (ISBN). The existence of an in-house printing base allowed for full control over the entire production process—from editing to printing—enabled by professionally equipped printing machinery.
Between 1990 and 2000, the university publishing house underwent a transformation in response to the new academic and market environment in Bulgaria. The thematic scope of its publications expanded, and during this period the printing house and publishing activities were consolidated into the UNWE Publishing Complex.
From 2000 to 2024, the publishing house experienced a period of modernization and institutional consolidation, establishing itself as a leading academic publisher in the fields of social and economic sciences, while introducing contemporary publishing standards.
From 2024 to the present, the publishing house has adopted the name Academic Publishing House UNWE / UNWE Press, continuing its development as a modern academic publisher that disseminates publications through international scientometric platforms and ensures global visibility of its publishing output.
Over the years, the publishing house has established its authority as a leading academic publisher, providing the publication of textbooks, monographs, edited volumes, academic journals, and other scholarly works in the fields of economics, management, law, and social sciences. Its activities are focused on ensuring high scientific, editorial, and ethical standards, as well as on preserving and advancing the university’s academic and research traditions.
